Beyoncé and JAY-Z to Give Over $1 Million in Scholarships to On the Run II Tour Cities
Beyoncé and JAY-Z have done a lot together this year between their joint tour and collaboration album, Everything is Love. Now, the power couple is teaming up for a scholarship between The BeyGOOD Initiative And The Shawn Carter Foundation.
The scholarship will award $100,000 to “one exceptional senior high school student, with financial needs” to use toward their college education, according to the press release. In order to enter, students will have to “demonstrate academic excellence and show financial needs that would make it hard for them to enter a college or university for the academic year 2018-2019.”
The seniors must be in one of the cities in the U.S. where the On The Run Tour II, is heading next as well. This includes Atlanta, Orlando, Miami, Arlington, New Orleans, Houston, Phoenix, Los Angeles, San Diego, Santa Clara, and Seattle. The Boys and Girls Club of America in the coinciding city will decide on the winner who gets the $100,000 in their city. With eleven cities, Bey and Jay will give out a total of $1.1 million.
This isn’t the first time Beyoncé or JAY-Z decided to give back. In 2017, Bey launched the Formation Scholars Award, which helped “female students start or further their college education.” Back in April, Beyoncé’s BeyGood gave a total of $100,000 to four HBCU students ($25,000 each) under her Beyoncé’s Homecoming Scholars Program. She later partnered with Google to give $25,000 scholarships to four more students. JAY-Z also has a scholarship fund that helps students cover tuition and other living expenses.
